This quote is from 'To Build a Fire' by Jack London. "The old-timer had been very serious in laying down the law that no man must travel alone in the Klondike after fifty below.” This quote has personal meaning to me because growing up as a truant rebellious runaway it was hard for me to trust or look to others for help.
Now that I am an adult I realize that you need the help of others sometimes to help you accomplish your goals or you can become overwhelmed focusing on your present circumstances.

This is a quote from “Keeper of the Word” by Lan Cao. This guy has very sensitive and watchful perception. His story is full of true hits and symbols.
“From the outside it had been the ordinary building that held no promises or threats beyond four walls anchored to a concrete parking lot. But inside, the A&P brimmed with unexpected abundance. Built-in metal stands overflowed with giant oranges and grapefruits meticulously arranged into pyramid. Columns of canned vegetables and fruits stood among multiple shelves as people well rehearsed to the demands of modern shopping meandered through the fluorescent aisles.”
It is a very interesting observation made by a foreigner Lan Cao of an American life-style sanctuary – the supermarket. A kind of observation I was making when first came to US couple of years ago. It was the first symbol of the America I acquainted with. Big faceless hangars of supermarkets with minimum architecture and maximum practicality. The huge concrete parking lots full of powerful trucks, filled up with gallons of gas. Tons of material substances provide flawless consumption. Inside the total convenience and order are accompanied by the artificial smiles under the artificial lights. Well rehearsed people are busy making choices between chicken and turkey, ranch and French, grilled and roasted, coke and sprite.
Powerful stuff…
